Substantially Expanding Our Lineup of Coated Carbide Drills

We have substantially expanded our lineup of the coated carbide drills "AQUA Drill EX Series" to satisfy various drilling needs.

 Today, in hopes of increasing their drilling productivity, people on the shop floor are rapidly moving away from HSS drills toward carbide drills capable of high-efficiency drilling. In addition, there is a growing need for coated carbide drills in the range of uses, such as deep hole drilling and large diameter hole drilling, to which HSS drills have conventionally been put a lot.

 5 different types of coated carbide drills have recently been added to our lineup of the coated carbide drills "AQUA Drill EX Series" so as to cover the complete process cycle, from the initial process to the finishing process, of drilling of iron-based work materials, including carbon steel, structural steel, cast iron and stainless steel, thereby making it possible to meet the various drilling needs of people on the shop floor.

Release of High-precision, High-efficiency Coated Carbide 3-flute Drills with Internal Oil Holes --- "AQUA Drills EX Oil-Hole 3 Flutes"

"AQUA Drills EX Oil-Hole 3 Flutes" have been added to our lineup of the coated carbide drills "AQUA Drill EX Series" and is now available in the market. In addition to high-precision machining that even permits reamer-less drilling, high-efficiency drilling at high speeds / fast feed rate is achieved through its use of 3 flutes yielding superior cutting balance and oil holes, and its optimized cutting edge geometry.


1.AQUA Drill EX Oil-Hole 3 Flutes features

(1) High-precision machining even capable of reamer-less drilling

The 3 flutes yielding superior cutting balance and the cutting edge geometry that helps provide the centripetal force directed toward the center of the drill bit allow for the same level of high-precision drilling as reaming. Reamer-less drilling assists in process intensification, substantial improvement in drilling efficiency and reduction in tooling costs.

(2) High-speed / fast feed drilling

Through the optimization of flute / cutting edge geometry and the use of oil hole cutting chip breaking / discharge performance is improved, enabling high speed /fast feed drilling.

(3) Stable drilling for a wide range of work materials

The oil holes are used to keep the inside of the drill oiled, which allows for drilling in a broad range of work materials from carbon steel to stainless steel. AQUA EX coating exceling in heat- / abrasion-resistance and lubricity helps increase the durability and machining stability of the drill during high-speed drilling.

Release of Indexable Insert Drill with Superior Cost Performance --- "AQUA Drill EX VF"

"AQUA Drill EX VF" -- a new indexable insert drill for large diameter hole drilling -- has been added to our lineup of the coated carbide drills "AQUA Drill EX Series" and is now available in the market.

Amid an ongoing shift in hole drilling from HSS drills toward coated carbide drills, indexable insert drills with replaceable carbide inserts mechanically mounted at the end of their steel bodies are in widespread use today. This is mainly because high initial costs associated with large diameter hole drilling have been an issue in the use of coated carbide drills. However, possessing lower structural rigidity as compared to conventional drills, indexable insert drills have had disadvantage over the conventional drills in such aspects as longevity, drilling accuracy and hole quality.

V-shaped mounting system, adopted in the high-stiffness body of "AQUA Drill EX VF," is combined with an integrated carbide insert to provide well-balanced cutting forces, which allow for high-precision drilling and superior cost performance.

(1)Outstanding cutting performance

An integrated insert scheme with excellent cutting force balance ensures drilling accuracy. The adoption of the V-shaped mounting system that permits a carbide insert to be easily mounted to its high-stiffness body using 2 screws helps dampen vibration during drilling and limit insert damage from vibration that occurs during high speed / fast feed drilling.

(2) Long-life drill for a wide range of work materials

Together with highly chip-resistant insert grade and specially-designed cutting edge geometry, AQUA EX coating exceling in heat- / abrasion-resistance and lubricity is designed for a wide range of work materials from carbon steel to stainless steel and cast iron and assures longer drilling life.

Deep hole drilling is among the processing technology fields where one see the conversion to carbide tooling being delayed due to problems attributable to chips. "AQUA Drill EX Oil-Hole Long" meets the requirements of work material diversification in both wet and MQL machining, and realizes high-efficiency deep hole drilling.

Release of Coated Carbide Starting Drill for Everything from Centering to Chamfering and V-Groove cutting --- "AQUA Drill EX Starting"

"AQUA Drill EX Starting" has been added to our lineup of the coated carbide drills "AQUA EX Series" and is now available in the market.

As for starting drills, in response to the introduction of work materials with higher hardness and customer needs for faster machining that improves drilling efficiency and longer tooling life, there is a greater need for converting to coated carbide drills.

In addition to the basic performance of starting drills that is to drill centers with high positioning accuracy, "AQUA Drill EX Starting" is also capable of chamfering and high-speed / high-efficiency V-Groove cutting. So its multifunctional capability can be used to advantage in various drilling fields.

(1) Centering with high accuracy

Thinning design for lower cutting resistance is effective in starting holes without deflecting the drill bit and drilling centers with high positioning accuracy. The sharp cutting edge allows for a clean machined surface free of chatter vibration or gouges, thus contributing to stable drilling performance in the post process.
